Sustainable Solutions

Driving the transition to lower-carbon agriculture

We’re helping to usher in a lower-carbon future. This means reducing our emissions, promoting sustainable practices in the supply chain, and growing our business in low-carbon markets.

Across our business, we have adopted a carbon focused decision-making process and are striving to bring a climate lens to everything we do. We are constantly working to minimize our environmental footprint and contribute to innovative solutions that cut carbon across our value chain while delivering value to stakeholders.

Key Initiatives

Bunge is strategically positioned to be the preferred partner for reducing carbon in food, feed and fuel supply chains. Below are some of the key steps we are taking to address climate change through different products we can offer to our customers at both ends of the value chain to reduce their carbon footprint, achieve their climate target goals and fulfill fuel regulatory requirements.

Regenerative Agriculture

Regenerative agriculture practices, which involve protecting and restoring soil health to help capture more carbon from the atmosphere, play an important role in our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our supply chains. Bunge partners with farmers and input companies, to support regenerative agriculture practices, empowering them with the tools and resources they need to take on these important conservation efforts.

The projects we are driving in multiple geographies around the world with farmers growing soybean, corn, rapeseed and sunflower, help to reduce nitrogen loss on farms, supports biodiversity, waterways and natural wildlife - all while working to address climate change.

Our regenerative program in Brazil is a key example of the work we are doing to engage farmers in this journey. Watch the video to learn more.

Novel Seeds

Rotational cover crops play a key role in our strategy to continue to develop next generation lower carbon feedstocks. Bunge is partnering with multiple seed companies to support the expansion of novel seeds - such as CoverCress and winter canola in North America - while exploring opportunities in other regions.
The goal is to increase the availability of vegetable oil feedstocks primarily for the growing domestic renewable fuels market. As a leader in oilseed processing, we are pleased to bring innovative crop solutions to farmers and process it into sustainable solutions for consumers.

Renewable Feedstocks

Besides increasing availability of vegetable oil feedstocks, such as soybean and canola oil, we are growing supply chains of low carbon oils such as used cooking oil (UCO), distillers' corn oil (DCO), animal fat and by-product utilization. In the past few years, we have announced joint ventures with Chevron in the U.S. and Olleco, in Europe.
