Bunge trades palm oil and derivative products, and uses these products as ingredients in some of our commercial and consumer products.

While not a plantation company, we recognize the important role we can play in encouraging a transition to more sustainable palm oil production practices that exclude the conversion of areas of high conservation value or high carbon stock, minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, utilize responsible agronomic practices, and protect the rights of workers and local communities.

Our Policy

Bunge is committed to building a traceable supply chain for all of the palm oil and derivatives we trade or utilize in our products, following these principles:

  • Forest & Biodiversity Preservation
  • Protection of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas and High Carbon Stock (HCS) forests
  • Protection of peat areas, regardless of depth
  • No burning
  • Prohibition of forced and child labor, discrimination and harassment of workers
  • Protection of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  • Respect of local and indigenous community rights and application of FPIC for land purchases and use
  • Legal Compliance

Grievance Process, List and Submission

Bunge believes stakeholders play important and constructive roles in the implementation of its sustainability commitments. Our grievance procedure provides a means for any stakeholder to raise concerns related to the implementation of Bunge's Palm Oil Policy, its worldwide operations and third-party suppliers via a transparent process.

Grievances can be expressed through Bunge's longstanding public ethics and compliance hotline, on the Web or by phone (1-888-691-0773 or 1-704-414-5695). The grievance raiser can remain anonymous. However, we recommend that the grievance raiser provide contact details so we can seek further clarification. Anyone may appoint a third-party to submit their grievances provided that the third-party follows the procedure.

You can review the procedure in greater detail and find answers to frequently asked questions here.
