Sugar & Bioenergy
Bunge is a global trader, marketer and processor of sugar. We mill sugarcane and produce a variety of sugar and ethanol products in Brazil, the world's leading exporter of sugar and sugarcane ethanol and a fast-growing domestic market as well. Long term, global sugar demand is growing at 3 percent per year and ethanol demand in Brazil is growing at 9 percent.
Trading and Marketing
Headquartered in London, Bunge's sugar trading and marketing arm sources sugar and ethanol through our origination network in Brazil, Thailand and other geographies and markets it to customers around the world.

Bunge began trading sugar in 2006. The business has grown organically and through the 2008 acquisition of Tate & Lyle's international sugar trading and marketing arm, which expanded Bunge's origination capabilities and participation in commercial markets.

Sugarcane Milling
In the first quarter of 2010, Bunge added five new sugarcane mills to its three existing mills in Brazil. With this acquisition, Bunge has established a large scale sugar and bioenergy business capable of producing various sugar and ethanol products.
Bunge's sugar milling business in Brazil is a strong complement to the company's global trading and marketing operations. The mills are close to the main domestic markets in Brazil and have excellent access to export logistics systems, positioning Bunge to capture increasing demand for sugar and sugarcane ethanol in domestic and export markets.

In addition, several mills have cogeneration plants, which convert excess energy from the milling process into electricity that is sold to power companies in Brazil.
Advantages of Sugarcane Ethanol
Ethanol made from sugarcane is the most economically attractive of today's major biofuels and has a compelling energy balance. It also burns cleaner than petroleum-based fuels. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), sugarcane ethanol produces 61 percent less emissions than gasoline.
